London Heathrow terminal 5 is due to open today by the Queen in a special opening ceremony. The new terminal which cost over £4 billion pounds to build and will have 60 aircraft stands by 2010, over 3,800 parking spaces, 20 security lanes and 112 retail units.

Manchester Airport is to close Runway 2

Manchester Airport is to close Runway 2 for three weeks to carry out
routine maintenance work.

Runway 2 – Manchester’s second runway- will be closed from February 5th to February 29th to allow for scheduled engineering work. All aircraft will take off and land on Runway 1 during the closure, which has been planned to coincide with the Airport’s quietest period.

Hong Kong International Airport Ferry Service

A new ferry service has just been launched between Hong Kong International Airport and Zhuhai on the mainland. Visitors utilizing this new ferry service benefit from the improved immigration and customs service at Skypier. There is also a new luggage transfer service available to Jiuzhou Port, Zhuhai and an onward transfer facility to other ports in the area such as Toishan, Xinhui and more.

Rygge Airport Oslo

Oslo is planning on opening a new airport at Rygge with is just under forty miles south of Oslo. The former military airport will offer flights with Norwegian Air Shuttle at the start of 2008.
